DELF B2 Tout Public

The B2 level user has acquired a degree of independence that allows them to argue to defend their opinion, develop their point of view and negotiate. At this level, the candidate demonstrates fluency in social discourse and becomes capable of correcting his mistakes himself.

It should be noted that, unless otherwise stated, the DELF B2 is compulsory to study in French higher education.

The DELF B2 Tout Public exam is based on level B2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Level B2 corresponds to an intermediate level

It is intended to reflect the specifications of the Advanced Level or Independent User . Descriptors for level B2 mark an important break with level B1. For example, the elementary grade at this level focuses on the effectiveness of argumentation:

- Reports their opinions and defends them during a discussion by providing appropriate explanations, arguments and comments.
−Develops a point of view on a topic supporting the advantages and disadvantages of the different options in turn; build a logical argument.
−Develop an argument defending or overwhelming a given point of view; articulates a problem by making it clear that the bargaining partner must make concessions.
- You wonder about the causes, consequences, hypothetical situations; actively participates in informal discussion in a family context, makes comments, clearly expresses one's point of view, evaluates possible options, makes and responds to hypotheses.

Points of convergence

 If we go through level B2, we see two new points of convergence:

The first is to be able to do better than to manage in social discourse, for example:

- Speak naturally, fluently and effectively.
- Understand in detail what is said to you in common standard language, even in a noisy environment.
- Take the initiative to speak, take turns at the right time and close the conversation when necessary, even if it is not always done gracefully.
- Use sentences pre-made (for example, "This is a tough question") to save time and keep your turn preparing what to say; intervene with a level of ease and spontaneity that enables exchanges with native speakers without imposing any restrictions on either party; adapt to changes in meaning, style and emphasis that normally appear in conversation; to seek relationships with native speakers without amusing or irritating them when they are unwanted or requiring them to behave differently than they would with a native speaker.

The second point of convergence refers to a new degree of knowledge of the language:

- Correct mistakes that have given rise to misunderstandings; take note of "favorite faults" and consciously monitor speech to track them.
- As a rule, correct faults and errors as soon as they are noticed; plan what to say and how to say it , taking into account the effect on the audience. However, this seems to be a new threshold that the student must cross.

You are in a position to obtain the DELF B2 certificate, if you can:

- Defend your opinion by giving arguments and examples.
- Develop your point of view and talk about the advantages and disadvantages.
- Express the cause and the consequence.
- Convince someone.
- Correct me when I make a mistake.
- Take notes.
- Reformulate an idea and explain what is implicit.
- Understand the fundamentals of a current document.

Collective tests

There are three collective tests where other candidates take the test at the same time, in the same room. And an individual test where each candidate is alone in front of 2 examiners:
Each test has 25 points.
- To obtain the diploma, you must have at least 50 points out of 100.
- You must have at least 5 points out of 25 per test.

A score below 5 points out of 25 in a test is eliminatory!

Old format exams

Keep in mind that from 2020, a new exam format appears. It involves changes in the oral comprehension and written comprehension tests of the DELF B2 Tout Public . However, for three years, that is, for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 , the old and new formats will coexist. This means that during these three years, on the day of your exam, your subject will correspond to the old format or the new format. Therefore, it is important to prepare for both exam formats:

• Total duration of collective examinations: 2 hours 30 minutes
• Total score out of 100
• Passing threshold to obtain the DELF B2 Tout Public diploma: 50/100
• Minimum required score per exam: 5/25
