What is a B2 level of English?

Level B2 of English is the fourth level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which defines the different levels of a language established by the Council of Europe. The official word that describes this level of English is "upper intermediate", or upper intermediate.

Users with level B2

Independent users with the language are identified with level B2, that is, they have the necessary fluency to communicate effortlessly with native speakers. It is important to remember that the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the system that defines and explains the different levels of oral and written expression and comprehension for languages such as English. It comprises 6 reference levels: three blocks (basic level or A, independent or B and competent or C), which are divided into two sublevels, 1 and 2.

Competences of level B2 of English

What language skills characterize a person who certifies that they have a B2 level of English? The CEFR defines the following:

−−Can understand the main ideas of complex texts that deal with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of a technical nature as long as they are within their field of specialization.

−− Is able to interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and naturalness so that communication is carried out without effort by any of the interlocutors.

−−Can produce clear and detailed texts on various topics, as well as defend a point of view on general topics indicating the pros and cons of the different options.
