Speaking English is a highly sought-after requirement when choosing a candidate for a job. Today it is essential to master the English language to aspire to certain jobs. And it is not enough to speak English, generally, in companies, a certificate is requested that certifies your knowledge and skill with the language.

What level of English do I need to certify to work?
As a general rule, the lowest certificates, A1 and A2, and even B1, are not used as a sign of the command of the language when looking for a job. It is from level B2, which already demonstrates certain abilities to adapt to the language in real situations, where companies begin to fixate when hiring people with a level of English.
Of course, the C1 is the most sought-after. It is already an advanced level that shows the control you have over the language, fluency and dexterity of an adequate level to deal with native English speakers in meetings and work tasks. C2 is still of a higher level, and more difficult to achieve, and is considered a level for experts in the language, although this will not be necessary to be able to aspire to a good job where proficiency with the English language is required.
What is the best certificate to look for work?
In Spain, as in the United Kingdom, the English certificates with the most presence and prestige are those of the Cambridge English institution. The best known and most demanded are the First Certificate, a basic level that is equivalent to a B2 level; and Advanced English, in this case, we are talking about a more advanced level that would be equivalent to a C1. Proficiency English is the most sought after, it is the level that is equivalent to C2, and obtaining it is earning many points when it comes to getting a job that requires speaking English.
There is also the possibility in Spain of being certified through the Official Language Schools. These public schools dependent on each autonomous community can help you certify your level of English from A2 to C1. The problem is that their degrees are only valid within Spain, so they are not the best option if you want to access some position in a foreign company.
The rest of the world
To work abroad there are two certificates that are especially valued internationally. We talk about the IELTS, International English Language Testing System, and the TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language.
These two tests are usually quite demanding and many who try them become empty. But they are two highly prestigious certification titles and there are companies that explicitly ask you for one of them to choose to work with them.
The big difference between these titles is in a very basic way that the IELTS is focused on British English, in the opposite case we have the TOEFL that is based on the command of English spoken in the United States of America.
