The Goetche A1: Fit in Deutsch 1 exam is a very simple language skills test at level A1 on the six-level proficiency scale of the Common European Framework of Reference. By passing the exam, students demonstrate that they can communicate in a very simple way in everyday life, taking into account the special linguistic needs of children and young people.
The Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Fit in Deutsch 1 is a German test for children and young people between 10 and 16 years old. The Goethe-Institut exams are available to all interested parties, they can be taken regardless of whether or not they are in possession of German nationality.
For the exam, students should have completed between 80 and 200 didactic units of 45 minutes each, depending on their prior knowledge and learning requirements.

The exam can be taken at Goethe Institutes around the world and at institutions to which the Goethe Institute has issued an examination license.
Fit in Deutsch 1 examines the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Exam parts
The Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Fit in Deutsch 1 consists of four parts: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking (group oral exam).
The exam is done and assessed in the same way around the world.
Read
- You should read, for example, short notes, short announcements, descriptions of people, simple letters to the editor or short newspaper texts and carry out tasks on them.
Duration: 20 minutes
Write
- You should write a reply to an email, letter, advertisement, or something similar.
Duration: 20 minutes
Hear
- You must listen to brief daily conversations, private telephone communications, radio information or similar and perform various tasks on them.
Duration: ca. 20 minutes approx.
Talk
- You should introduce yourself, ask questions about everyday topics, and answer simple questions. In addition, you must formulate requests and react to the interpellations of your interlocutor in situations that are familiar to you.
Duration: 15 minutes
