The certifications of Cambridge University are known all around the world and are validated by many universities, institutions and businesses. They also count with a great prestige and international recognition. This is why Cambridge University has been evaluating English knowlegde all around the world for 150 years. Each year, over 3 million people, from 135 countries, take the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) exams of Cambridge University.
It has an academic focus and consists of 4 parts: Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading. You have to pass all parts of the exam in order to obtain the certificate. It also has the Use of English part (a specific vocabulary excercise). Apart from this, it has a level of business (business English) and legal (legal English) English.
It is designed for the evaluation of the linguistic mastery of kids whose ages range between seven and twelve, the Cambridge English exam: Young Learners (YLE) is available on three levels (Starters, Movers and Flyers) and they encourage kids to keep on working through the evaluation of their progress.
It is a basic level qualification that demonstrates that you can use English for communicating in simple situations. It is the lowest level of all the General English Exams that Cambridge offers.
Preliminary English Test (PET)

Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
This is the highest level certificate of the Cambridge ESOL Examinations. It demonstrates that you possess an exceptional mastery of English and that you can use it with fluency in research and in the academic and professional sector.
Business English Certificate (BEC)
In our current globalised world, it is important that you can demonstrate to businesses that you can communicate in English in an effective way in different business situations. There are thee English exams for businesses: Business Preliminary, Business Vantage and Business Higher.
The Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) evaluates the competences you need to be able to teach English to speakers of other languages. It consists of various parts and it is indicated for teachers and students from all levels and ages.

The exams of listening comprehension (Listening), writing expression (Writing) and reading comprehension (Reading) last between 40 and 90 minutes each, depending on the level of the exam. And the oral expression (Speaking) lasts between 5 and 10 minutes.

This exam certifies your English level, so its main focus is not to see whether you have passed or failed, but to express the English level you have achieved.
All candidates receive a Qualification Report. If you pass the exam, you will receive the certificate.
If you have completed the exam on paper, your certificate will be sent to the examination centre between six and nine weeks after the exam.
If you have completed the exam on computer, your certificate will be sent to the examination centre between five and six weeks after the exam.
The results do not expire. The only issue, is that if they are very old, the entity requesting them can ask for an update.
The inscription and payment must be completed online. After the online inscription for an English exam, you will receive the confirmation of your enrolment and information about the exam via email.
