What are the DELF/DALF exams?
The DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) diplomas are official qualifications that accredit your levels of French mastery and validate your French level. These diplomas are granted by the CIEP (Centre International d'Etudes Pédagogiques) and are recognised by the Ministry of Education of the French Government.
➕What knowledge and skills does the French DELF/DALF exam assess?
They evaluate the four basic linguistic skills:
Oral and Written comprehension (Listening and Reading).
Writing and Oral expression (Writing and Speaking).
➕What types of exams are there and what are they divided into?
The DELF and DALF diplomas are independent. The DELF diploma consists of 4 levels (A1, A2, B1, B2) and the DALF diploma consists of 2 levels (C1 and C2). You can enrol directly to your corresponding level. The skills evaluated in both diplomas are the same, the only thing that changes are the topics, which are adapted to different levels.
DELF Prim is aimed for kids who are between 7 and 11 years old and study in primary education. It is consists of 3 levels: A1.1, A1 and A2.
DELF Junior and/or DELF Scolaire are perfectly designed for teenagers whose ages range from 12 to 18 and study in secondary or universities. They consist of 4 levels: A1, A2, B1 y B2. The difference between the levels depends on the countries carrying the exams out.
DELF Tous Publics is designed for all students over 18 years of age who study French and are willing to validate their French knowledge. The DELF Tous Publics consists of 4 levels. A1, A2, B1 and B2.
DELF PRO is designed for students or workers whose aim is to integrate in the French speaking workforce sector and gain promotion inside the sector. It consists of 4 levels: A1, A2, B1 y B2.
DALF is a high level diploma which evaluates the linguistic French competences which are needed in the academic and professional sectors, and even for personal purposes. This diploma corresponds to the C1 and C2 levels.

➕How long do the French DELF/DALF exams last for?
Depending on the level you are going to apply for:
A1 - 1 hour and 20 minutes.
A2 - 1 hour and 40 minutes.
B1 - 1 hour and 45 minutes.
B2 - 2 hours and 30 minutes.
C1 - 4 hours.
C2 - 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The DELF and DALF consist of 6 independent diplomas, which follow the requirements established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
These diplomas are internationally recognised and they officially evaluate your French skills, not only on an academic level, but also on a professional one.
There are over 1000 DELF/DALF examination centres around the world, distributed amongst 173 countries.
They will fit your curriculum perfectly because these certifications are increasingly recognised amongst administrations, businesses and educational institutions.
The DELF/DALF diplomas are recognised by CRUE (Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas).
The certifications are valid for life.
The diplomas and their respective levels are independent. Therefore, the person can enrol in a diploma that corresponds with his/her French level.
All DELF diplomas (for all ages, junior, school, primary and professional option) have the same validity and advantages.
In order to pass the exam, the user must achieve at least, a 50% of the required score. A higher score in one of the skill tests, can compensate for another skill test, in which the score has been lower. If the user scores lower than 5/25 points in any of the skill tests, he/she will automatically fail.
The DELF and DALF are international certificates that are benefited by the recognition of all their diplomas by the Ministry of National Education of France.
There is no limit in the maximum number of enrolments for the obtainment of the qualification.
The diplomas are available for all candidates between 2 and 3 months after the exam has been completed. The candidates can also ask for a provisional diploma.
The obtained scores of the tests are expressed in detail (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and they include the certificate.
